Strawberry Sunday

It’s strawberry season!
I have been able to secure a small number of high quality strawberry runners from one of the only two certified runner growers in Qld. It is essential that you act quickly to order. The plants are arriving next Tuesday and, because they are bare root, need to be sent to you for planting very quickly. Any stock I have left on Friday, 11 April, 08 will need to be potted and then sold at a higher pot plant price. The variety is Redland Joy which are well suited to South East Qld and produce abundant medium to large fruit with outstanding flavour. I am putting them together in bundles of 6 for $10, or 12 at $16. Our usual flat rate delivery of $8 applies in the Brisbane area or just the cost of postage to other places.
Strawberries are a delicious but highly perishable fruit and don’t transport from the commercial growers well. I find it disappointing to get home from shopping and find the bottom layer of the punnet mushy and needing to be thrown out. Commercial growers get around this by growing varieties that may be firmer, so they pack and transport better, but what happens is that the flavour is compromised. By starting from runners you can have the flavour and the freshness, without the heartache of throwing away any fruit that has perished.
Strawberries are quite easy to grow and maintain but you must keep an eye on them. They are very adaptable and will grow equally well in a garden bed, pots or as we prefer, the Jumbo mini gardens. Planting depth is important - make sure the roots are covered, but not the crown, from where the leaf stems emerge. Feed the soil with an organic fertiliser, use natural eco-oil to control any pests (we’re not the only one’s who love strawberries) and eco-rose as an organic fungicide and you’ll get lovely crops of home grown fruit for an expected two to three years. Nothing there is too difficult is it? The secret is observation and communication with me, so that together we can stay one step ahead of any problems.
I have put together a package that includes everything you need to turn this into a successful venture. It includes some of the products I have mentioned and the runners ready for planting. It also comes with my guarantee to you . If you aren’t able to harvest a punnet of juicy, fresh strawberries from each plant, sent me a photo showing how they are growing and provided the Eco products have been used where necessary, I will send you double the number of runners next season at absolutely no cost!

What are your favourite recipes for using strawberries? You can certainly eat them plain, picked straight from the bush or if they make it into the kitchen, can be turned into milkshakes, pavlova, cheesecake or dipped in hot chocolate. My wife has a fantastic strawberry cheesecake recipe that I can email to you with any purchase.
Call David now, direct on 33936396 to order your Strawberry Sunday or just the runners.
ps I’ll even throw in the block of dipping chocolate for free!
