Welcome
Hello and welcome to the December edition of the Stradbroke Weddings' newsletter.
Here we are at the end of yet another busy year and I find myself asking myself the same question I do at this time every year - Where does the time go? Each year seems to be busier than the previous and this year has certainly been no exception. It's been a year full of surprises, wonderful accomplishments and awards, gorgeous weddings, events, a world first and a firmer commitment to caring for our community and environment, both on a local and global scale.
We began the year by committing to become an official supporter of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Originally, this was to be just until November 2007; however, the support has been so overwhelming we have extended this commitment through to 2008. In October, Stradbroke Weddings went pink all over when we hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast and our website turned pink for the entire month! You can read all about it in this edition of our newsletter.
Our commitment to the environment extended to a world first for a wedding coordination company by creating carbon neutral office operations and offering our clients carbon neutral weddings. In this newsletter, we discuss why, how and what influenced our decision to become the first carbon neutral wedding coordination company in the world.
In addition, we have news on our latest beautiful weddings, Stradbroke Flowers floristry service and our partnership with the new Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel, so read on to catch up on the latest developments..
Opening hours during Christmas Break
Stradbroke Weddings mainland and Island offices will be closed during the following period over the Christmas/ New Year break.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast
Continuing with our support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Stradbroke Weddings hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast at the new Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel & Spa at Point Lookout. The ‘Green Room’ restaurant at the Hotel turned pink for the morning as 50 guests dressed in pink enjoyed our 'pink' menu.
Tables were in theme with pink ribbon and flowers. A 'pink' raffle was organised, which included prizes from local Straddie businesses such as Nourish Naturally, an original Sandi Okalyi artwork and the Hotel who donated two bottles of Moet champagne. Even the table flowers were auctioned after the event to raise funds!
Local Musician, Clara Durbidge entertained us with her delightful talent and speakers Judi Shearer from WOW” Consultants and Grace Gawler, from the Gawler Foundation spoke to us on their experiences with overcoming cancer and living a fulfilled and productive life.
Stradbroke Weddings raised $2083 for the Breast Cancer Foundation from the event. We would like to extend our thanks to all our generous supporters and everyone who attended on the day to show their support for this worthy cause.
“Just a note to say well done on a fabulous brekkie yesterday – it was a lovely morning – everything was just gorgeous and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves” Renee Buckley. Propeller Graphic Design.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my stay on Stradbroke Island and in particular the beautiful function that you organised. The whole atmosphere was absolutely delightful and combined with the sunny day and venue, it was especially enjoyable. I have told everyone how fantastic the flowers were, so congratulations.” Judi Shearer. WOW! Consultants .
For those wanting further inspiration for their lives, we recommend Judi Shearer’s new book “Dance until it Rains, Inspirational Stories of Everyday Persistence’. It is available by phoning Judi on 3378 8935.

Wedding Lightly on the Planet
In May this year Stradbroke Weddings was proud to announce that it was to be the first wedding coordination service in the world to go carbon neutral. Not only have we begun the process of reducing our carbon footprint to zero, we're taking it one step further by offering our clients carbon neutral weddings and in 2008; we aim to become carbon negative.
As awareness of the impact of climate change increases and the latest report by the International Panel on Climate Change released by the U.N announces that global warming is melting artic ice caps 80 years earlier than previously estimated, the time has come for all of us to act quickly. Holding a wedding or event does not necessarily need to cost the earth and Stradbroke Weddings can show you how to do this. Stradbroke Weddings has always maintained a strict Environment Policy but this year we recognised the need to go one step further for the planet.
Holding carbon neutral weddings is not difficult and doesn’t cost as much as you might think. It involves reducing carbon produced by the event and then offsetting the carbon that is produced by purchasing carbon credits. These carbon credits are then used to purchase electricity produced from renewable means (solar, wind, hydro, etc) to send back into the electricity grid. These funds are also used to develop other renewable energy sources which will become even more important as the effects of both Climate Change and ‘Peak Oil’ are felt within the next few years.
Whilst some have said to us that whatever we do won’t make a difference, we take Ghandi’s view who said “Whatever you do will seem insignificant, but do it anyway”.
Stradbroke Weddings is doing our bit and striving to do more. Ask us now how you can contribute to a better world and make your wedding carbon neutral. If you have any suggestions on how we might make our operations more green, please feel free to email us with your thoughts.
Stradbroke Weddings Partners with the New Hotel for Fabulous Functions
Great wedding planning is all about great relationships with suppliers and Stradbroke Weddings only deals with the best.
For many years, Stradbroke Weddings has enjoyed a close association with the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel and Spa. Apart from employing Juliet Lally, the Hotel owners daughter in events for a year, when Juliet's two sisters, Gen and Liz , were planning their weddings, the first supplier they called was Stradbroke Weddings. Both Gen and Liz engaged Stradbroke Weddings to assist with a myriad of services including flowers, decorations, coordination on the day, photography and many more.
Since opening the newly refurbished Hotel this year, Stradbroke Weddings and the Hotel have been working together to create some fabulous celebrations and when it was time for the Hotel's grand opening, they relied on Stradbroke Wedidngs and Stradbroke Flowers to create the floral displays for the Hotel and install decorations in the function room for the offical luncheon with dignitaries.
With 2008 promising to be a huge year for weddings at the Hotel, Stradbroke Weddings has been helping couples ensure their day is a success through careful planning, decorations and flowers.
