Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to all our friends! August has arrived and with it, our thoughts here in Brisbane turn to the iconic Ekka, the Westerly breezes and the end of winter as the promise of spring looms just around the corner. Before we know it we’ll be donning our red and green and making preparations for the silly season once again!

August is an exciting time on the Island and in the wedding business as we prepare for the coming spring season; always the busiest of the year. Here at Stradbroke Weddings, we’re adding the final touches to wedding plans, dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s to ensure everything is checked, double checked and ready to go for yet another season of gorgeous island weddings.

On the Island, whales are heading back to southern waters with calves, (always the best time to view them as they wrangle and play with their rambunctious calves) and the ever present dolphins and turtles continue to delight tourists and locals alike.

In this edition of our newsletter, we’d like to share with you some exciting updates on where Stradbroke Weddings has been in the past two months and where we’re heading, but on a personal note, apologies once again to Damien and Renee, my long suffering newsletter producers at Propeller for this edition of 'War and Peace' (there's just so much to tell!) and congratulations to them on the birth of their gorgeous daughter, Ava Willow!  We think you're the best!

In July, we were proud to once again receive an award at the Redlands on Moreton Bay Tourism Awards, our fifth consecutive win!  We’ve been busy keeping up with technology to bring you even more news on our whereabouts and what we’re up to with our online Twitter profile.  We're are also offering videoconferencing over Skype for all those clients who live at a distance or just can’t make it into our mainland or Island offices.

We take a look at the latest wedding trends as we head towards the end of the year and look towards 2010. A few old favourites are coming back along with some unexpected surprises.

Our featured wedding this edition took place in June at Point Lookout and our decorating team had the chance to show off their skills with some fabulous ceremony and reception decorations.  So sit back and take a few minutes as we share our news with you.

Weddings and the environment in harmony

Weddings and the environment in harmony

While debate still rages in Australia and internationally regarding carbon emission targets and the effects of global warming, Stradbroke Weddings is continuing to lead by example in the field of environmentally responsible weddings both on and off the Island.

We have now completed our second year of carbon neutral operations and we're proud to be reaching even further towrard our goal for a greener planet:

Wedding trends for 2010

Wedding trends for 2010

Something we’re often asked about at Stradbroke Weddings is upcoming wedding trends. While our philosophy is that everyone is an individual and you can do whatever you want at your wedding (we often tell our clients that the wedding police won’t come and arrest them if they decide they don’t want a cake or they opt for no attendants!), we also like to keep an eye on the trends, so that in turn, we can keep our clients fully informed of their choices for the best products, services and styling influences.

Looking towards 2010 (and it’s just around the corner), there are some very clear new trends emerging and some that will continue on from the past year and you can find them here:

We’ve been promising our new range of wedding products for some time now but with one thing and another, we just haven’t had a moment to finalise our range. After all, we’re here to look after our brides and grooms and when they need us, we drop everything to ensure we’re there.

Lately we’ve had a number of brides telling us that they are anxiously awaiting our online store so what could we do? What our brides want, our brides get! As a result, we’re pleased to announce the launch of our first online range featuring wedding and event products and accessories:

A winter wedding

A winter wedding

Regular readers of our website will know that winter is our favourite time for weddings and this year again, was no exception. When Sarah and Mark married in June they decided on a cliff top ceremony with a formal, vintage-inspired reception for around 100 of their family and friends.

As busy professionals, Sarah & Mark engaged Stradbroke Weddings to assist with various aspects of their planning:

Circle of love

Circle of love

Ever wondered where wedding traditions originate? We derive our modern wedding traditions from a variety of cultures and ages, some of which can be traced back thousands of years.

For instance, Ancient Egyptians believed that unbroken circular rings insured eternal love and devotion.

Rings were placed on the third finger of the left hand because it was thought that the vein in that finger ran directly to the heart
