TOURISM IN REDLANDS FORUM
Redlands City Chamber of Commerce and the Redlands Institute recently held an open forum at the Grand View Hotel on a new tourism proposal for the Redlands. Chairman of the Redlands Tourism Advisory Forum, Mr Paul Lewin, addressed the forty strong attendees advising of the new tourism model that has been proposed and recommended to Redland City Council. Paul advised that the new structure would take local tourism to a new level. He said that under the proposal, the current tourism unit of the Redland City Council and the operator-based Redlands Tourism would be merged into a new entity or local tourism organisation. Under the new proposal Mr Lewin advised it is envisaged the the Redland City Council would own and fund the entity and would have a Council representative on the Board. Mr Lewin stressed to the Redlands Institute Forum that a decision needed to
be taken on the direction of tourism marketing for the Redlands. He suggested that Redlands could target the family market from within 100km of Brisbane as well as the visiting family and friends market. The proposal for the new entity and its structure has been presented to Redland City Council and is currently awaiting further consultative reports before going before Councillors again for a decision. It was indicated by and large by the majority of the people at the forum, that they supported the proposed structure and were asked to urge councillors to adopt the new proposal.
We will keep you informed of the outcome. As for how this affects current Redlands Tourism members, current membership benefits would remain in place and only be greatly enhanced as they become the founding members of the new entity should it be introduced.
