A Visit From The North
Redlands Tourism hosted a visit from the Noosa, Caloundra and Maroochy Visitor Information Centres (VIC) on Tuesday 29th August. As per Redlands Tourism, most accredited VIC’s are a member of the Queensland Information Centre Association (QICA) who’s role is to network and advise on VIC issues. QICA is currently sourcing information regarding all the different models of VIC’s in Queensland and I must say that there are quite a few, some of which work very well and others that struggle with their current structure.
As a member of Redlands Tourism you may not see the need to understand the behind the scenes operational structure of how we are funded or how we operate from year to year, however now and again when issues arise and we (Redlands Tourism) need to seek advises from our members, it is ideal that you have some understanding of how Redlands Tourism operates.
Redlands Tourism is a non-profit organisation and also are independent from our local Council. Redlands Tourism has a contract with our local Council to provided Visitor Services from our VIC in Cleveland. This contract is for a sum of 130k per year. Redlands Tourism’s operational costs for both VIC’s including all activities are around 400k, therefore we have a shortfall of around 270k.
To allow Redlands Tourism to continue to operator we have had to think outside the square with the types of activities that we are involved with.
· Production of Brochures for our and other regions
· Distribution of Brochures for our and other regions
· Administration of Bed & Breakfast Farmstays Queensland
· Central Booking Office for all Accommodation, Transfers and Day Tours
· Group Bookings for Cultural Activities
· Membership base
· And others
We hope that this information will give you an understanding of the structure of our not for profit organisation that we are proud to call you a member of.
News from AAA Tourism
Tourism business and accreditation portal features the STAR Rating Scheme
The quality of Australian tourism product is set to be enhanced with the Federal Government’s launch this week of a tourism business and accreditation portal, improving access to tourism accreditation.
The Australian Government committed $2 million of Tourism White Paper funding toward tourism accreditation to develop a tourism business and accreditation portal.
"High quality tourism products and services are critical for Australia’s reputation as a premier tourist destination," Fran Bailey, Minister for Small Business and Tourism, said today.
"Tourism accreditation is recognised as an important mechanism for maintaining our competitive edge by offering quality products and services.
"The tourism business and accreditation portal provides a single access point for tourism business improvement, with on-line accreditation capability for tourism accreditation program managers and individual businesses.
"The tourism business and accreditation portal is designed with two toolkits. The first enables industry to develop and market tourism accreditation products, and help raise awareness of accredited products available in the marketplace.
The second provides information to assist businesses improve business and management skills, including links to key industry and government websites.
"The Australian Government is committed to building on a sustainable and high quality tourism product. The tourism business and accreditation portal reiterates our support toward a voluntary, industry-led accreditation system for the tourism industry", Fran Bailey said.
AAA Tourism CEO Jeff Floyd welcomed this initiative. "AAA Tourism has worked closely with the Tourism Department to ensure that the STAR Rating Scheme – Australia’s leading quality accreditation scheme is fully represented on this important portal", said Jeff Floyd.
The portal can be accessed at www.qualitytourism.com.au
